Program Eligibility
The Social Housing Program is designed to ensure that safe and secure housing is available to those who could not otherwise afford it. The program is specifically targeted to low-income families, seniors (55 years of age or older) and people with a permanent physical or cognitive disability.
Interested individuals must fill out and submit a standard application form and also provide the Housing Authority with required income information, including verifiable documentation, and provide a signed declaration of household assets.
General Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Social Housing Program:
- All members of the applicant’s household must be physically and legally in Canada;
- The applicant’s household income must be at or below the Saskatchewan Household Income Maximum (SHIM); and
- The applicant’s household assets must be at or below the established household asset limits.
SENIOR HOUSING
Eligibility
Senior Housing units are available to persons 55 years of age and older with assets not exceeding $300,000. The maximum annual income limit for senior housing is $43,700 for individuals and $53,500 for couples. Rent is calculated at 30% of gross monthly adjusted income which is consistent with CMHC National Affordability Standards for housing. Adjusted income refers to the exclusion of some government benefits such as Seniors Income Plan.
Priority is given to applicants with greatest need based on income, current shelter costs, current housing conditions, health problems aggravated by current housing conditions and/or current housing is unsuitable because of a disability.
Security deposits are required and depending on the property there may be additional costs such as utilities, parking and excess storage.

FAMILY HOUSING
Eligibility
Applicants must have a satisfactory rental history, and incomes and assets below established limits. Priority is given to applicants with greatest need based on income, current shelter costs, current housing conditions, health problems aggravated by current housing conditions and/or current housing is unsuitable because of a disability.
Rent is calculated at 30% of gross monthly adjusted income which is consistent with CHMC National Affordability Standards for housing. Adjusted income refers to the exclusion of some government benefits including but not limited to Canada Child Benefits, family health benefits and GST refunds. VICTIMS OF FAMILY VIOLENCE
Applications to Regina Housing Authority from those individuals who are victims of family violence will be considered a priority for housing. Prior to granting status Regina Housing Authority will require verification of status from a physician; lawyer; emergency shelter; law enforcement officer; social worker; and/or member of the clergy. Regina Housing Authority is committed to protecting the privacy of these individuals in need.
All other eligibility criteria pertain to those granted status.

LIFE LEASE
Eligibility
The Life Lease program is designed for moderate income adults who are 55 years of age or older. This program offers security of tenure similar to home-ownership but without the responsibilities of maintenance and upkeep. The monthly occupancy fee is calculated annually based on the operational costs of the building.
The maximum income limit for singles is $49,900 and couples is $61,200. The asset limit for Life Lease housing is $415,000.
Life Lease deposit prices start at $60,600 and can increase depending on the size of the suite. The Life-Interest Lease purchase price is fully refundable (less damages) within 90 days of vacating the unit.
